School has started and students everywhere are trying to adjust to their new schedules. Night owls have to
revert to earlier bed times or else risk sleeping through their alarms. College co-eds jostle for mirror time in dorm restrooms, wielding all sorts of menacing items to get them ready in time for class – sizzling curling irons, mascara wands, hairspray, blow-dryers, and flatirons hot enough to fry an egg.
Soon, the smart girls realize something’s gotta give. Campus life and hours spent on hair and makeup just don’t mesh. Morning makeup application will need to be cut down to a five-minute beauty blitz, and they’ll learn to either wear their hair “au naturel” to classes or shove it under a ball cap, emblazoned with the school logo. For the really smart gals, a third option comes to mind: a semi-permanent cure for the unruly mess – an appointment at a hair salon to get Japanese hair straightening.
Thermal reconditioning will zap the frizz, lock in shine and give pin-straight hair for about nine months – the length of the school year. You’ll be able to pack away the hair-straightening balms and the flatiron. Other than using the recommended after-care products, your hair will be maintenance-free for months, allowing you to concentrate on your studies so you can ace those finals. With mirror time reduced in the mornings, you’ll be able to catch an extra hour of sleep and still make it on time to the lecture hall. Combine the treatment with the latest in women haircuts and you’ll be one stylin’ co-ed.
Combine Japanese hair straightening with a simple five-minute makeup routine and you’ll be good to go. Salon Trendz makeup artists in Chicago suggest that you stick to neutral colors and simple techniques to minimize application time.
Salon Trendz’ Five-minute Morning Makeup Blitz
- Apply moisturizer with SPF 15 or higher to protect skin from sun damage.
- If you wear foundation, use the sheerest base you have. Apply it with a slightly damp makeup sponge or clean fingertips. Apply dry foundation and blend it in with a brush for even coverage.
- Apply cheek color with a big blusher brush, sweeping down from the apples of your cheeks, where women blush naturally.
- Apply a light layer of eye shadow, smudging a little shimmer at the inner corners to make sleepy eyes look alert.
- Outline eyes with a soft brown eyeliner pencil, concentrating on the outer corners. Blend the line with a small applicator sponge to keep it from looking garish.
- Apply mascara to your top lashes. One coat is sufficient and looks more natural.
- Using a fat brow pencil or a brush with powder, apply color lightly to your brow bone and blend. Defining your eyebrows gives your face more impact.
- Use a translucent lipstick, which allows the natural texture and color of your lips to shine through. A few quick strokes with a lip brush will even it out. Natural, translucent lip shades don’t require as much precision, so they take less time.
- Take a puff brush and lightly powder your nose and T-zone with loose translucent powder to set makeup and prevent shine.
- Check the results in natural light, make any adjustments, and head out the door.
Adopt these A+ time-saving steps and you’ll go to the head of the class. You’ll find you get more sleep, start the day with less stress, and get to school on time. Who says smart young women can’t be beautiful and punctual, too?

Tip number 4 works very well after a late night. A little sparkle on the inner corner of your eyes can do wonders. I also totally agree with number 10. My bathroom doesn’t have a lot of natural light, so I always need to check my foundation somewhere bright to make sure I don’t look like a clown. These tips are great. Thanks Salon Trendz!
